In the summer of 2014, Menapolis co-produced False Alarm, a documentary that brings stories of Syria’s revolution. ”False Alarm” tells the story of Syria today. It is the story of a country that has lost its revolutionary spirit, overpowered by internal divisions. It is a film about revolution, exile, death, hope, victory and defeat. Told by young Syrians, filming each other’s journeys, and holding on to their cameras like they were the only proof of their existence, it sheds light on how Syria became unrecognizable to its own inhabitants. This documentary follows the filmakers through laughter and tears, until it is no longer clear whether they are happy to have found their freedom or sad that the revolution no longer represents them.
False Alarm was screened in Beirut and Istanbul in 2014. The documentary also participated in This Human World film festival in Vienna and the Human Rights Human Wrongs festival in Oslo.
